MUS 121 Women in Music History

This course will explore numerous issues concerning women in music. These may include the contributions of women, as well as obstacles they faced, as composers, patrons and performers in Western art music, and/or non-Western art music and popular music and the portrayal of women in opera and musical theater. No prior knowledge of music is necessary. Assignments may include listening, reading, writing and group and individual projects. Three lecture hours per week. Attendance at performances/concerts outside of class is required. Satisfies an elective in the music minor.
