SWK 702 - History of American Social Welfare Policy & Services

3 Credit(s) This course examines the historical, philosophical, social, economic, and political determinants of social welfare policies and institutions in the United States. The history of social welfare policy provides a context for understanding the role of social work in society. Students are introduced to the critical thinking essential for analyzing policy. Strong focus on the struggles of oppressed groups, on social reformers, and social movements as they’ve expanded social welfare provisions, social justice, and human rights.
Prerequisites:
Admission to MSW Program or permission of Instructor and MSW Program Coordinator.
