EDC 740 - Methods of Teaching Literacy in Elementary School

3 Credit(s) This course emphasizes responsive and developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for teaching literacy in culturally and linguistically diverse elementary settings, applying strategies and theories learned in Literacy Development I and II. In this course, students design and implement instruction for small and large groups by applying evidence-based strategies in support of reading and writing development, as well as national and state standards. The course emphasizes the role of literacy assessment in differentiating instruction. Students critically evaluate digital and print instructional materials and assessments. Field based assignments are required. To be taken concurrently with pre-practicum fieldwork seminar. Three lecture hours per week.

Pre-requisite:  EDC 406 Literacy Development II
