BIO 313 Molecular Biology

An introduction to major concepts and experimental techniques in molecular biology. This course examines the synthesis of RNA, and proteins, and the regulation of these processes. Molecular biology techniques covered in lecture include cloning, gene fusions, DNA sequencing, basics of DNA and protein sequence analysis (bioinformatics), PCR, DNA microarrays and electrophoresis. Laboratories will focus on methods used in cloning DNA. Three lecture hours and one three-hour laboratory per week.
Prerequisites:  BIO212, or permission of the Department Chairperson.
