MCO 215 Applied Media Law and Ethics 3 Credit(s) This course will deal with the legal and ethical issues encountered by U.S. publishers, editors, writers and other content producers and distributors since the ratification of the First Amendment. Attention will be given to landmark events and to the historical, political and technological developments that gave rise to them. Emphasis will be placed on the concept of legal precedent, those assumptions about the nature of humans on which moral judgments are made and on the evolution of libertarian thought from the ratification of the First Amendment to the present. Not open to students who have taken COM305 or MCO305. Three lecture hours per week.
Prerequisites: A grade of C or higher in COM100 or MCO100, and COM105 or MCO105.
