EDU 898 - Mathematic Methods in Elementary Schools3 Credit(s) This course presents methods and materials that foster the construction of mathematical concepts and skills for elementary school children, grades 1-6. Emphasis will be placed on using problem solving and communication as frameworks for teaching with the goal of fostering mathematical literacy in the areas of number sense, geometry, data analysis and probability, and algebraic reasoning. Strategies for getting children actively involved in doing mathematics via learning experiences that facilitate discovery will be presented. Requires 25 hours of pre-practicum experience during the course.
