OCT 700 - Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Seminar

3 Credit(s) This discussion-based seminar provides students with the conceptual foundation needed to understand the complexities of professional practice in occupational therapy. This seminar will review the historical and philosophical basis of the profession and examine OT professional documents. Students will receive introduction to the dynamics of “occupation” and explore the relationship that exists between occupation, person and environment. The impact of disability, disease, and injury on the person, family and society will be analyzed and acquisition of cultural competency and knowledge relating to occupational justice will be presented. In addition, an inspection of the social and political systems that influence the delivery of health care services and the relevance of evidence-based practice to the profession will be discussed.
