ART 342 Pre-Columbian Art of Mesoamerica and the Andes 3.0 Credit(s) WC This course will serve as an introduction to the cultures and artworks of Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica and the Andes from the Olmec and Chavin to the Aztec, Maya, and Inca. It will provide foundational material, including a knowledge of cultural systems, architectural trends, and key works of art. Cultural trends and political strategies will be examined in comparison to modem cultures and political systems. Three lecture hours per week. A visit to the Museum of Fine Arts or other Boston-area museum is required.
Prerequisites: ART100, ART232 or ART233.
