CRJ 395 Emergency Management 3.0 Credit(s) This course provides students with an introduction to emergency management concepts, theories, and principles through the exploration of the history of emergency management policies, practices, and events. Using a lens of Criminal Justice, students will explore national, state, and local government emergency management structure, roles, and responsibilities. Using Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Emergency Management Institute (EMI) training modules to enhance the learning experience, students will learn the complexities of crisis and Criminal Justice emergency response, and the roles and responsibilities of emergency management personnel. Students will acquire a knowledge of the five phases of emergency management (prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery). In this course, students assess emergency management plans for risk, community impact, and unintended consequences, from the perspective of Criminal Justice. Three lecture hours per week.
