EEC 200 Creative Arts for Young Children

3 Credit(s)
The purpose of this course is to explore approaches to teaching creative arts in young children (birth - age 8).  Participants will learn about the visual arts, music, movement, and drama activities and how they can foster cognitive, physical, and social and emotional development. Planning and implementing intentional, developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate experiences will be emphasized throughout the course. The importance of a process-, not product-oriented approach as well as the inclusion of sensory experiences and play in a creative arts curriculum will also be explored. Field based assignments, including participation in a creative arts workshop for families, are required. Three lecture hours per week.
