SOC 348 Latinx Groups in the U.S.

This course will provide an in-depth understanding of Latinx groups in the United States. Latinx groups have been in the U.S. since before the nation was created and have been fundamental in its development. This course will explore the local-global connections, history, and contemporary realities of the many groups incorporated under the Latinx umbrella (Central and South Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and many others). This course explores issues of racism, discrimination, bilingual education, undocumented persons, undocuqueer (im)migrant youth, immigration legislation, and popular cultural narratives and discourses of Latinx groups. Three lecture hours per week.
Prerequisite: SOC110 or permission of Department Chairperson.
