CRJ 280 Private Security and Loss Prevention 3.0 Credit(s) This course introduces students to the history of private security, private crime prevention, and loss prevention. Students will compare and contrast roles, responses, and policies of the public sector (formal criminal justice processes) to the private security sector. The course explores private security and loss prevention through theoretical, philosophical, practical, legal, and ethical lenses. The course covers topics such as private security vs. police officers’ role, private security and loss prevention careers, legal concerns and implications, cybersecurity as a function of private security and loss prevention, technological advances, risk management, workplace violence, and more. Three lecture hours per week.
