CRJ 390 Seminar in Crime and Security

3 Credit(s)
The course introduces students to the history and theories of Security, the Department of Homeland Security’s functions and purpose, the importance and impact of intelligence and intelligence communication, and issues such as border control, transnational and global crimes, and ethical decision-making.  As a seminar, the course addresses current events through historical, criminological, and social justice lenses. Given the clear links between national security and defense and mitigation of crime, administration of justice, victimization prevention, and offender profiling, this course guides students through contemporary topics, core research, and philosophical discussions. Three lecture hours per week.
