EDU 822 - Social Studies and the Creative Arts Methods in Early Childhood

3 Credit(s) This course emphasizes the importance a high-quality social studies and creative arts curriculum that is rooted in social justice for prekindergarten-second grade. The course will cover five primary theme areas of social studies: economics, geography, civics/government, history, and culture to young children in developmentally, linguistically, and culturally appropriate ways. A unique emphasis on integrating creative arts education is included. Resources that activate and build participants own background knowledge and identify target concepts and vocabulary for instruction will be emphasized. Requires 25-hour field-based pare-practicum experience. Three lecture hours per week.
