MSM 701 - Patterns, Relations, and Algebra for Teachers

3 Credit(s) This course will help teachers gain a deep understanding of the algebraic concepts taught at the middle and early high school levels. Topics include the expression of approximate relationships in data using tables and graphs. The course will also consider linear, polynomial, and exponential relationships, and sequences, especially recursive sequences. The course emphasizes multiple approaches to analyzing mathematical relationships (e.g. graphical, tabular, algebraic, numerical, etc.) as well as active learning and persistence in problem solving. Three lecture hours per week.  Not available for degree credit towards the MS mathematics programs.
