HGS 888 - Partition, Violence and Postcolonial India3 Credit(s) This course examines the origins, events and outcomes of the partition of South Asia (1947) into two separate and
independent nations, India and Pakistan. It considers the political, social, economic, and cultural dimensions of this
traumatic and turbulent history from 1947 to present day. Special attention will be paid to situating the history of
partition of South Asia within global and comparative histories of genocide and mass violence. Three lecture hours per
week.
