EDS 739 - Literacy and Disabilities

3 Credit(s) This course explores the research, theory and best practices in the literacy development of students with exceptional learning needs. Course content includes examining literacy intervention research in relation to exceptionality classifications, like dyslexia. The course will focus on evidence-based assessment of students’ literacy development, monitoring the response to intervention, and adjusting instruction based on student progress. Course participants learn how to provide individualized and intensive instruction to assist students with exceptionalities in word analysis, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written expression.  Requires a 25-hour pre-practicum field experience.
Pre-requisites: EDS 824  or EDU 817C .
