EDU 745A - Literacy, Language and Diversity

3 Credit(s) This course focuses on language structure and theories of first and second language acquisition as they relate to the literacy development and instruction of native speakers of English and multilingual learners. Candidates study word recognition, structural analysis, and vocabulary, components of language,  the interrelations of reading, writing, language, viewing, speaking, and listening in service of knowledge building and modifying instructional materials to support diverse needs. Collaborating with families is emphasized. Aligned to grade specific standards in the Massachusetts English Language Arts and Literacy Framework. 25-hour pre-practicum field-experience required.
