EDC 721 - Social Studies and Creative Arts Methods in Early Childhood

3 Credit(s) This course emphasizes the importance of a high-quality social studies and creative arts curriculum rooted in social justice in early childhood settings (PreK-2). Using a vertical progression of content (PreK-4), teacher candidates use standards, backwards design, and UDL to create developmentally, linguistically, and culturally appropriate lessons in social studies (i.e., economics, geography, civics/government, history, and culture). Integrating creative arts is emphasized. Requires field-based assignments. Three (3) lecture hours per week. A 25-hour field-based pre-practicum is required for ECE graduate programs.

Pre-requisites: For students matriculated into the 4+1 program: EDC 406; for students matriculated into the early childhood graduate programs: EDU 725
Co-requisites: For students matriculated in the 4+1 program: EDC 733
