Middle School Mathematics, Initial Licensure Option, Master of Arts in Teaching

Objectives


The initial license option of the MAT Middle School Mathematics program is designed for those seeking to obtain initial license to teach middle school mathematics (5-8) in conjunction with their master’s degree.

Program Requirements


All candidates must

  • pass the Communication and Literacy MTEL prior to admission
  • complete a minimum of 39 credit hours of graduate course work (described below)
  • pass the Middle School Mathematics MTEL by the time 15 credits of mathematics courses in the program have been completed 

Students who have not completed a course in Adolescent Psychology prior to enrolling in the program will be required to complete such a course prior to enrolling in the practicum. The course may be taken at either the graduate or undergraduate level and will not count towards the credits required for degree.
