Elementary Education - Initial License, Master of Education

Purpose

This program is designed for individuals who already hold an undergraduate degree and who are seeking a master’s degree and an initial license and/or training in elementary education.

Prerequisites

A child growth and development course (minimum grade of B- for undergraduate level course; minimum grade of B for graduate level course).

Passing scores on the Communication and Literacy portion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with either a major in the arts and sciences or an interdisciplinary arts/sciences major, or at least 24 credits above the introductory level in arts and science courses with at least 12 credits in one academic area

^Candidates for initial licensure must take and pass all required sections o the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure prior to entering practicum undergraduate or previous graduate work. Thirty (30) credits is the minimum required for the master’s degree.

Total Credits: 30** - 36.5

**Allows flexibility for students who may have taken equivalent education courses in their undergraduate or previous graduate work. Thirty (30) credits is the minimum required for the master’s degree.
