The core focus of the Master of Education in Leadership in Physical Education and Movement Studies program will be on leadership, offering coursework to better equip professionals to emerge as leaders in the field. Students will select a “focus area” consisting of 12 credits of indepth study in a specific area of the discipline. In addition, students will have the opportunity to explore outside of the focus area, or even within other disciplines, with 3 elective credits. If applicable, students in this program will have access to the coursework necessary to become eligible for a professional license in physical education.
Admissions Requirements
Specific additional requirements for admission
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Personal Interview with the graduate coordinator or designee
- Applicants for the M.Ed. Leadership in Physical Education and Movement Studies program are exempt from having to take either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).

Program Requirements
Upon acceptance into the program, you will complete a tentative Plan of Study in consultation with the program coordinator. You must request that any transfer credits be considered at this time. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO MORE THAN THREE COURSES TAKEN AT SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY BEFORE ADMISSION CAN BE COUNTED TOWARDS THIS PROGRAM. You should meet regularly with the program coordinator to discuss your progress and revise your plan of study as needed.

Physical Education (12 credits)
Adapted Physical Education (12 credits)
Adventure Education (12 credits)

Additional Information and Notes
The program is a 30 credit hour degree. All students complete the core requirements (15 credits) and one of the following focus areas for 12 credits: Physical Education, Adapted Physical Education, or Adventure Education. To complete the program, students must complete one three-credit elective from the list above.
