Linda Frontiero, Associate Dean, School of Nursing

The Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services (MMCHHS) has a long history of educating our communities’ professionals.

The College includes Nursing, Healthcare Studies, Occupational Therapy, and Criminal Justice programs. Our healthcare programs offer students a wide variety of clinical and non-clinical options in the healthcare fields, and our Criminal Justice program prepares students for the ever-changing challenges of working with diverse populations in different fields.

The numbers of nurses that have passed through the nearly 50-year-old School of Nursing are just too many to count. We are confident, though, that our graduates provide healthcare services in a vast array of medical areas all across the globe. Nursing offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as a nurse practitioner program and graduate certificate. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredits the Nursing program.

Occupational Therapy (OT) offers two programs tailored to be flexible to meet the needs of students and the demands of today’s workforce. They include a combined BS/MS in OT and a direct-entry MS in OT. The OT program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) through the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

For those interested in healthcare careers, but prefer non-clinical settings, we offer a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Studies. The program prepares students for multiple facets of the healthcare industry, including technology, leadership and management, cultural competence and diversity, health and disability, policy, and research. Students will build upon studies in healthcare basics and expand their skillsets through a choice of minor and internship experiences.

Criminal Justice offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Our criminal justice graduates work with law enforcement agencies, courts, and correctional institutions at local, state, and federal levels as well as employed by social service organizations, private businesses, and private security organizations. Our graduates are also attorneys, university professors, judges, elected officials, and much more. The department offers undergraduate, graduate, and combined (4+1) programs, which are certified as the Police Career Incentive Pay Program (PCIPP), also known as Quin Bill, by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Our Mission

The Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services’ mission centers on the educational preparation of students, grounded in theory, research, and practice in the fields of nursing, criminal justice, occupational therapy, and healthcare. Recognizing the unique interdisciplinary nature of these respective professions, we seek to promote a humanistic, caring environment, which maximizes student potential and instills sensitivity to current social problems and issues. The Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services is committed to promoting knowledgeable professionals working in a world of diverse cultures, and who seek opportunities that will serve and foster the well-being of the public.

Our Goals

  • To provide students with requisite practice models, appropriate and current research to prepare them for beginning and advanced professional practice in their respective disciplines.
  • To prepare students to contribute to and utilize the knowledge base of their respective disciplines while recognizing the mutually interactive nature of this knowledge, especially as it applies to human concerns.
  • To stimulate students’ ability to critically analyze social problems and issues facing both the nation and the broader global society and to prepare them to evaluate professional and organizational responses.
  • To instill in students an understanding of the ethical standards of each discipline and to foster ethical decision-making and professional behavior.
  • To stimulate and support scholarship and research and to facilitate efforts for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • To instill in faculty and students the value and importance of lifelong learning and to accordingly provide professional development opportunities.
  • To serve as a resource and an advocate for the University and for the greater community in program development and in disseminating critical information related to current societal needs.
  • To foster appreciation and respect for a culturally diverse population and to promote effective working relationships in an increasingly multi-cultural society.

To encourage ongoing collaboration and collegiality in the College as well as within the University as a whole.
