POL 383 - Comparative African Governments and Politics3 Credit(s) DIII This course introduces students to the contemporary politics of sub-Saharan Africa. It focuses on the challenges that are common to most of its states (such as post-colonialism, neo-patrimonialism, and ethnic diversity) but also on variations in performances, especially in terms of state buildings, democratization, and development. Selected case studies serve to illustrate the diversity of this area of the world and the complexity of the issues examined. Three lecture hours per week.
