BIO 423 - Experimental Methods in Molecular Biology4 Credit(s) This course will give the student experience in research methods in molecular biology. An experimental research project developed in consultation with the instructor is the primary activity. Lab work will focus on this project, and may also include occasional demonstrations. Lecture topics will include discussion of methods used in lab (both theoretical aspects of these techniques as well as trouble shooting problems), background material relevant to the research projects, data presentation and interpretation, and student presentations of their own research project. A field trip outside of regularly scheduled course hours may be required. Individual projects may require short periods of lab work outside normally schedule lab time. Two lecture hours and two three-hour laboratories per week. Prerequisites: BIO 313 and CHE 212 , and either CHE 131 or CHE 231 or permission of the Department Chairperson.
