ECO 316 - Economics of State and Local Government

The economic functions of state and local governments with special emphasis on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Topics discussed are Massachusetts’s fiscal structure, property tax, personal income tax, principles of taxation, program budgeting, cost effectiveness, and special services. Three lecture hours per week. This course is offered on a periodic basis. Elective for Economics majors. Division III elective for all other majors. Prerequisite: ECO 200  or permission of Department Chairperson.
