CHI 101 - Elementary Mandarin Chinese I3 Credit(s) This is a Mandarin Chinese language course for beginners aimed at developing communicative competency in the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will learn basic vocabulary and sentence structures for use in essential everyday conversational situations. Pinyin (a widely used Chinese phonetic system) will be taught as a tool to learn the spoken language. Students will also learn Chinese characters. Approximately 200 words and expressions in both Pinyin and characters will be taught. Students will also learn about Chinese culture and society. Three lecture hours per week.
