SOC 238 Peoples of Africa I 3 Credit(s) DIII An introduction of the socio-cultural context of present-day Africa with emphasis on ethnicity (tribalism). The interaction of the various African forces with the Western colonialist powers is investigated. The role and contribution of the various liberation movements - ANC, FRELIMO, SAPO, PALGC, ZAPU, MPLA - to African independence are also assessed. The intent is to project an objective picture of the peoples of Africa. Three lecture hours per week. Not open to students who have received credit for SOC 338. Prerequisite: SOC 110 or SOC 201 or permission of Department Chairperson.
