BIO 219 Evolution 3 Credit(s) This course provides an introduction to evolution as the frame of reference for hypothesis testing in modern biology, Topics include the history of evolutionary thought from Darwin through evolutionary development, mechanisms of species formation, and the patterns and processes of evolution observed in clades, genomes genes, and gene regulation in a wide vane of organisms. Morphological, physiological and genetic examples demonstrate how evolutionary hypotheses are generated and tested to investigate the evolutionary relationships of living organisms. Three lecture hours er week.
Prerequisites: BIO131 and BIO132 or BIO121 and BIO122 or permission of Department Chairperson. Not open to students who have received credits for BIO220.
