BIO 217 General Genetics This course is a study of the hereditary material - how it is organized, how it is transmitted, how it changes, how it provides information to the cell and how well-designed experiments allow researchers to learn more about genetic mechanisms. Topics to be discussed include the biochemistry of nucleic acids, genome organization and duplication chromosome segregation and heredity, genetic variation, gene expression and regulation, and an introduction to genetic analysis. three lecture hours per week.
Prerequisites: BIO132 or BIO122 or permission of departmental Chairperson. Not open to students who have received credit for BIO402. Required of Biology majors.
