EEC 309 Anti-Bias Education: Perspectives, and Advocacy in early childhood Education 3 Credit(s) This course explores historical and current trends and issues in early childhood education, multilingual development, early childhood special education, and developmentally, culturally, and linguistically responsive teaching with an emphasis on anti-bias education, an approach to early childhood education that focuses on respecting and embracing differences and acting against bias and unfairness and universal design for learning principles. Students will also explore the historical role of social advocacy with a focus on how to develop their own advocacy skills. The importance of collaboration and consultation with other professionals and staff in early childhood education will also be explored. Three lecture hours per week. Field-based assignments are required.
