FIN 458 Estate Planning 3 Credit(s) Estate planning is a key component of financial planning. The primary focus of this course is to familiarize students with the various tools used to effect the intergenerational and charitable transfer of wealth. Students will explore the complex legal, tax, and financial issues involved in the transfer of property via wills, trusts, and gifts; consider the ways in which legal and regulatory structures impact individual and family intentions about wealth transfer; and develop the basic tools necessary to advise clients in estate planning matters. Students will also consider the social and economic effects of estate planning laws, regulations, and policies. Three lecture hours per week plus work outside of class.
