EDC 722 - STEAM Methods in the Early Childhood II: Mathematics

3 Credit(s) This course integrates an interdisciplinary, STEAM approach into teaching mathematics in early childhood settings (PreK-2). With vertical progression of content (PreK-4), candidates’ mathematics instruction focuses on project-based, inquiry activities anchored in real-world problem solving. Candidates use the Massachusetts and NCTM standards, NAEYC recommendations, backwards design, and UDL principles to create developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate instruction by assessing learners to guide diagnostic teaching. Requires field-based assignments. Three lecture hours per week.25 pre-practicum hours required for ECE graduate programs.
Pre-requisite: For students matriculated into the 4+1 program: EDC 406; for students matriculated into the early childhood graduate programs: EDU 725
