SWK 705 - Social Work Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups II

3 Credit(s) This practice course represents the second of two “foundation year” practice semesters.  Skill and knowledge acquisition is centered around the phases of the helping process which include engagement, assessment, contracting, intervention, evaluation, and termination. Emphasis is placed on working with families and groups. The course continues to delineate central, unifying practice principles and theories used to guide social work practice all while adhering to the values and ethics of the social work profession. Integral to the course is the practice of self-awareness and the professional “use of self” which are needed to foster interpersonal helping relationships. Therefore, students will examine ways in which their own personal values, perceptions, and social and cultural identities may influence the helping process with client systems. (3 cr)
