Program Objectives
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Art focuses on academic and studio needs of teachers and visual artists who want to obtain the professional level license to teach in Massachusetts. The program provides the skills and competencies needed by visual arts teachers and includes a strong studio component in addition to curriculum development and teaching methods.
Additional Admissions Requirements
Submit a copy of your Massachusetts initial educator license.
A comprehensive portfolio of artwork (10-15 pieces), submitted via CD only. The School of Graduate Studies is not responsible for original work sent by applicants. Please submit a SASE with correct return address and postage if you wish to have your CD returned.

Program Requirements
Upon acceptance into the program, you will complete a tentative Plan of Study in consultation with the program coordinator. You must request that any transfer credits be considered at this time. Please note that no more than three courses taken at Salem State University before admission can be counted towards this program. You should meet regularly with the program coordinator to discuss your progress and revise your plan of study, as needed. The program coordinator will assess the potential acceptance of transfer credits. Art Education Core (choose three)

For visual arts teachers already holding a PK-8 visual arts license who want to apply for an additional license at the age level 5-12. |
