Program Admission Requirements/Guidelines

- A student must apply before having completed 90 credits. Exceptions may be made for students who are seniors but who still have at least 30 credits of required courses remaining to graduate.
- A student must have at least a 3.0 GPA for both admission and retention.
- Applicants should submit 3 letters of recommendation; a 500 - 700 word statement of interest discussing how this program will advance his or her academic, personal, and career goals; and a resume or CV as part of the application.
- For those interested in licensure, a passing score on the Communications and Literacy portion of the MTEL must also be submitted before applying for the licensure track. Those students who would like to pursue the licensure would have to meet DESE and SSU requirements for applying for licensure. This includes a passing core on the Communications and Literacy portions of the MTEL exam before applying to the program and a passing score on the ESL portion of the MTESL before applying to the student teaching practicum. Full explanation of the licensure process can be also referenced at: mass.gov/ese/licensure and salemstate.edu/academics/2418.php
