Program: Teacher Education Minor - Salem State University

2020 - 2021 Undergraduate Catalog

The Teacher Education minor prepares students majoring in an arts and sciences discipline for Initial licensure as teachers, as part of the integrated bachelors/masters (4 +1) programs for the following content areas and grade levels: Art (PK-8 or 5-12). Physical Education (Elementary or Secondary); Theatre Arts (PK-12).

Teacher Education minors must complete the following courses (24-27 credits total):

EDC 115 Exploring Education
EDC 404 Introduction to Teaching
EDC 405 Culturally Responsive Teaching
EDC 461 Fieldwork seminar I: Critical Issues and Effective Practices for Secondary and Specialist Teachers
EDC 415 Effective UDL Classroom Practices
EDC 462 Fieldwork seminar II: Critical Issues and Effective Practices for Secondary and Specialist Teachers
EDC 762 Technology Methods
EDC 763 Classroom Management and Community Building
EDS 860 Sheltering Content for English Language Learners (Note: Theatre candidates exempt)

One of the following content methods sequences (6 credits total):

Art:	EDC 776 and EDC 777 Methods of Teaching Visual Arts I and II
Physical Education:	EDC 780 and EDC781 Methods of Teaching Elementary Physical Education and Methods of Teaching Secondary Physical Education
Theatre:	EDC 784 and EDC 785 Methods of Teaching Theatre I and II
