Wellness is the active pursuit of activities, choices, and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health. At its essence, wellness is a multi-dimensional but individual pursuit that is the baseline for developing stronger, healthier, happier communities. Community wellness is based around a public health approach with three assumptions: (1) the principal that individual health and wellness is vital to that of the community; (2) many illnesses are preventable through the management of diet, exercise, and lifestyle; and (3) the community contains many solutions to public health issues. In a time such as a world-wide pandemic, community wellness based practices are going to be a key part of recovery. Students interested in this curriculum should meet with the Department Chairperson for advising. Exceptions to prerequisites or substitutions may be made in consultation with the Department Chairperson.
