Maguire Meservey College of Health & Human Services

Sami Ansari, PhD, Dean

The Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services (MMCHHS) has a long history of providing broad-based education to our students and preparing them to serve in the field of healthcare and human services.

Our healthcare programs, including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Healthcare Studies, offer students a wide variety of clinical and non-clinical options in healthcare fields. Our Social Work and Criminal Justice programs prepare students for the ever-changing challenges of working with diverse populations in different fields in human services areas.

The School of Nursing has a 50-plus-year history of preparing nurses and future nurses to meet the many challenges of today’s complex healthcare environment. Our graduates provide healthcare services in diverse settings locally, nationally, and globally. Nursing offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The nursing program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and is certified by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN).

If Nursing is the flagship of our healthcare programs, Social Work carries the title in our human services programs. Our Social Work program was among the first in the state university system, and we have led at the forefront ever since. Social Work offers graduate (MSW) and undergraduate (BSW) programs and is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Criminal Justice offers undergraduate, graduate, and combined (4+1) programs and is one of the largest in the region. Our criminal justice graduates work with law enforcement agencies, courts, and correctional institutions at local, state, and federal levels and are employed by social service organizations, private businesses, and private security organizations. Our CJ graduates are also attorneys, university professors, judges, elected officials, and much more. The programs are certified under the Police Career Incentive Pay Program (PCIPP), also known as Quin Bill, by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

For those interested in healthcare careers but prefer non-clinical settings, we offer a BS in Healthcare Studies and a combined BS in Healthcare Studies and Spanish programs. The programs prepare students for multiple facets of the healthcare industry, including technology, leadership and management, cultural competence and diversity, health and disability, policy, and research. Our combined program is specially designed to serve heritage and non-heritage Spanish speakers. Students will build upon their studies in healthcare basics and expand their skill sets through a choice of minor and internship experiences.

Occupational Therapy (OT) offers two programs tailored to be flexible to meet the needs of students and the demands of today’s healthcare workforce. They include a combined BS/MS in OT and a direct-entry MS in OT. The OT program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) through the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Graduates of the program have had a positive and lasting impact on health and well-being.
