SOC 338 Peoples of Africa I 3 Credit(s) DIII An introduction of the socio-cultural context of present-day Africa with emphasis on ethnicity (tribalism). The interaction of the various African forces with the Western colonialist powers is investigated. The role and contribution of the various liberation movements - ANC, FRELIMO, SAPO, PALGC, ZAPU, MPLA - to African independence are also assessed. The intent is to project an objective picture of the peoples of Africa. Three lecture hours per week. Prerequisite: SOC 201 or permission of Department Chairperson.
