MCO 265 Mediated Leadership and Ethics

This course examines ethical questions as they relate to technology, media, and other social institutions. Particular emphasis is placed on how leaders utilize the media to craft and disseminate messages regarding social issues to observers, followers, and partners. Course concepts include communication ethics, media ownership, media law, expectations for media professionals, and governmental influence in the media. Coursework will include assignments focusing on case studies of ethical leadership and technology, analyzing and interpreting evidence, crafting ethical communication, audience expectations and assumptions, identifying and creating leaders, and the ethical obligations of creating media. Three lecture hours per week.
