MCO 336 Community Building Engagement

This course examines the idea and ideal of American community, both locally and nationally. Emphasis is placed on social media as a method of engagement and communication, as well as a catalyst for action. Course concepts include belonging and exclusion within communities, civic responsibiility, sense of community/virtual community, diversity, advocacy and activism, and community building strategies. Coursework will include assignments focusing on case studies of communities, community concerns, community goals and policies, listening within communities to better understand community needs, and working with community members, leaders, and observers to learn more about each role. Three lecture hours per week.
