SPN 417 Hispano-American Literature I 3 Credit(s) DI V An examination of the literary movements in Latin America from colonial days through independence. The course explores the interaction between Spain and Latin America, looking at the impact of discrimination, gender roles and colonial oppression on Hispanic American indigenous and mestizo cultures. Readings/discussions in Spanish. Three lecture hours per week. This course and SPN 418 satisfies the one-year literature sequence distribution requirement. Elective for Spanish minors. Offered alternate years.
Prerequisite: SPN 202 or equivalent.
